To and From School Today

May 18th, 2011 § Leave a Comment

For those of you who follow my tumblr, I’m sorry. There will occasionally be the double-post here and there, but I try to keep at least some of the content fresh and different.

Things I’ve done while riding a bike (that I think are at least mildly impressive):

1. Had my hands off the handlebars

2. Put my feet up on the frame

3. Zipped up my jacket (you try doing that one-handed while also steering)

4. Eaten a sandwich successfully (no spills, no messy fingers, no sacrifices, exactly how I wanted it)

So, finals are upon us here at SCAD, and although I’m at least sort of excited for two of them, the other one I was more excited about a week ago, before my teacher kept holding me back on stuff. Oh well, course evaluations are open!  For comic book scripting, we’ll be sending a submission packet off to a publisher for the first time, and for weaving, we’re doing our own thing, and mine should be really relaxing and great. Hopefully, once I finish all these crazy finals, I’ll at least have a little time before starting my internship so that I can work on my own fun stuff.

Lastly, I don’t know what this is, but I know it’s amazing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyARHscb8mU&feature=feedf

Derby Devils full comic

May 1st, 2011 § 3 Comments

EDIT: Alright, here’s the final thing! Just a fun little four-pager, but I hope you enjoyed it!

I don’t know if y’all remember this post, with my plans for this comic, but yeah, it’s here now! This is something I did for the Savannah Derby Devils for my Intro to Sequential class. I got some really good critique from my class and my teacher, so I’ll know what to do for next time.

Yeah, It Rains in April Sometimes

April 26th, 2011 § 1 Comment

So, if you want to lose your lunch, go search for pictures of that.
Anyways, April’s almost over, but back toward the beginning, this happened. I drew the comic, inked it, and didn’t post it until now…
I’m really busy with school work and not feeling like doing any (avoiding homework at this very moment!), so that’s why stuff is taking a long time. I will not have an Artist’s Alley table at Animazement after all (hurrah, alliteration), but I may or may not still be going. We’ll see.
No, I did not really get trenchfoot, but I did have to walk around in soaked shoes and socks for the next two hours, so that was interesting.
I recently started reading more of Italo Calvino’s book, Cosmicomics (not actually comics), and I had forgotten how awesome they are. I really really like the short stories in there, and apparently Google Books has it, so you can go read it there! Sweet! I also found Ubermensch! by Kim Newman in an anthology on there (Vampire Anthology???) and that’s pretty great if you have any knowledge of mainstream super heroes, which most Americans do. I have every intention of going out and picking up Cosmicomics, and one day, I hope to also get my hands on the short story, The Pukie. One day…

More Terrible Comics!

March 15th, 2011 § Leave a Comment

Nicole, the Visual Effects major, living it up in Montgomery Hall. Hot boys, pizza fairy, doughnuts, wheelie chairs… Yeah, their life is heaven. (Oh, also, they work really really hard and never sleep.)

This one needs no explanation. Oh, wait. They both do, since they’re so terrible. You see, I sat down to study for my art history exam, and instead, I drew a bunch of comics. The top one is in ball-point pen, which I love, and the bottom one is in sharpie. Both aren’t scanned, but merely photographed at night, with the flash on. Quality work.

I Don’t Have to Answer to You

I’m busy with finals, that’s why I haven’t posted anything! Yeah!

Am I procrastinating late into the night by badly drawing comics? I refer to the title of this post!

Edward Gorey Pastiche… with JAWS

February 23rd, 2011 § 3 Comments

Gorey-Jaws 1 by Lucy Kagan

Gorey-Jaws 2 by Lucy Kagan

I don’t know what happened with the sharpness here. Hopefully, it’s just something my computer is doing, but let me know if it really is showing up blurrily.

For my Introduction to Sequential Art class with Brian Ralph, our project that we turned in today featured a movie scene done in the style of a master artist. My artist was the wonderful Edward Gorey, and my movie was Jaws. The class insisted that I do the “We’re going to need a bigger boat,” scene, and I hadn’t seen the movie yet, so I watched it, found the scene, and this is what I came up with. Real Gorey fans will find a thousand issues with my piece, and even some who’ve never heard of Edward Gorey, but hopefully, it’s decent enough to show.

This is the text I excitedly typed in yesterday, below, but since then, I’ve watched the entire first DVD and two episodes from the second.

So, I just got my boxed set of Fringe season 2, which I thought had been stolen from my mailbox, but was actually just sent to the wrong address, so I’m super excited to catch up on the entire season I missed during my first year at college last year. I just finished the first episode, and all I can say is, “No, Charlie!!!” I am upset. Oh, and also, I am more and more convinced of the strong connections I see between this and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

I really want to read the Fringe comics now that I’ve heard more about them. I saw an issue at the Reader’s Corner back home, but I didn’t buy it, since I just saw it as we were checking out! Regret!

Round Robin

Click to be able to actually read this thing.

Alright, some crazy new pictures should be coming up soon, aside from this nonsense. I’m excited! And busy… Anyways, this was a class exercise where each person did a different type of panel, and as you can see, some people got a little confused here. I mean, really. He’s kidnapped by sky pirates, in THEIR boat, not his, but clearly someone got confused along the way…

Anyways, I did the first panel, and I am so happy to see Captain Rainbows turned out to be as wonderful as this. I was hoping either a  big buff amazing guy, or a lady, but knowing that it could go a number of ways, so I was really pleased to see that it went this way. I love this Captain Rainbows, so thanks to Jesse Moriarty (don’t know if I spelled the last name right)! This is what CSI Miami should really be about.

Thanks, everyone in my Introduction to Sequential Art class! I don’t care what anyone says, Brian Ralph is a super cool guy.

Sooo, Josh informed me that he had seen my art on the Adventure Time tumblr! I had submitted back in December, but figured that they rejected it or something, since I saw my friend Jocelyn’s picture on there, but not mine not long after. However, apparently, they were just taking their sweet time, because it’s up there now! *so proud*

This means I’ll have to submit more…

Cold and Rainy Comic

January 12th, 2011 § 2 Comments

Let me know if this is unreadable. You can click on it, and there’s a bigger version if you need to zoom in. I’m still working on readability and all that with my comics…

Anyways, today is that Wednesday, and thankfully, it was sunny! Still super cold, but I’ve learned to deal with that a little bit better:

I wrap my hands in scarves, since my gloves don’t keep them warm when biking, and wear one of my hand-knit hairbands over my ears and head (you can buy/order one from me!). Then, I just bundle up under my giant coat!

Also, I finally got the correct scan of my Pokemon comic, so go take a look!

Stephen’s Plan and Collecting Names

December 22nd, 2010 § Leave a Comment

Stephen gives great advice.

I’ve been writing down all the great names I hear from the ’50s and ’60s and all. My dad’s friends when he was in elementary school have names like Dolore and Christie (a boy, short for Christian) and Denny. I want more great names like this, preferably first and last. Susie Stout and Denny Riley are just not names I hear a lot, and I’d love to use them for a story or something.

Spirit Pokemon

Edit: I finally got to a good scanner, so here’s the proper version of the comic! If you liked the old one better for some reason, let me know. You can see it on knowyourmeme.com!

Also, my friend, Orlando, posted one as well! So amazing. Mine cannot compare: http://odditystew.blogspot.com/2010/12/spirit-pokemon.html
