About

“Live With” short comic- http://lucykagan.daportfolio.com/

I’m a college student and freelancer. I take commissions in anything sewing- or drawing-related, and I love to do all kinds of other fun things like cooking, photography, and anything crafty. I have ambitions of setting up a webcomic at some point, but I don’t really know how, so any advice would be appreciated. I’m listening to the Webcomics Weekly podcasts for tips and I’m only semi-interested in continuing to use smackjeeves.com to host my comic.

Hiya! Im an youtube-fellow-rude-fan of Emillie Simon. Nice to hear from you. Wanted to write you via email but didnt manage to find your adress…
Anyways, i think you should add french among your languages really! Learning japanese gotta to be kinda tough I presume though…how much time did it take you to learn their writing system?
I´ve been learning French and English obviously, but i wanna add Spanish too, for i think its not too bad, like the melody of the language… Especially in America it might come quite handy i guess.
PS. I love some of your drawings! You study arts?

    Take care,

    Tomas

Hey! Good to hear from you!
I actually have several friends who have been learning French, so I probably should have just asked for their help on the video, I realize, and maybe I can get them to help me learn some of it, too! My cousins in Spain and some friends from Mexico are native speakers of Spanish, and I have other friends who are nearly fluent, so I have them to help me on that front, and I hear that with each romance language you learn, it just gets easier from there. What’s your first language?
For Japanese, I started when I was in middle school, so I learned the two phonetic alphabets within probably a year or so, and I still haven’t gotten very far into Kanji, the Chinese letters. There are so many of them, and they have different pronunciations in different places, so it’s really difficult, especially since I lacked the drive in the first place and because I haven’t practiced a lot since leaving high school.
I do study arts! I’m glad you’ve liked some of my work. I’m hoping to get a job in some sort of creative field one day, so I’m trying to get a lot better. I’m not the worst in my classes, but I’m not the best, either, so I have to push myself to work harder.

I hope you’re having luck with your studies!
      Lucy

  • Really cool blog! I’m a big fan of comics and have really been hitting them hard lately, especially because I dream of turning my dissertation into a graphic novel, but I have the artistic skill of stale macaroni, which, if you remember the artwork we all stuck on our mothers’ fridges, you know isn’t very sophisticated. So the opportunity to follow someone who’s currently learning the craft is awesome. And then I noticed your love for Calvino, and I subscribed. Looking forward to reading, and good luck in developing your comic and your website!
